Family Health Insurance
Having health insurance is important for every family. Things happen to adults and children and it is best to be prepared for the worst. To ensure that you and your family are covered, consider getting health insurance from your employer. Many companies offer its employees with great benefit packages. If your company doesn’t offer anything or you aren’t yet qualified to receive family health insurance, see if your spouse is able. If not, there are some other options available.
There are different types of plans; one in particular is short-term health insurance. This option offers you and your family coverage for a short period of time. It is often much cheaper and is compared to COBRA, which is also a short term health insurance provider. Most people who opt for short term health insurance are in the middle of looking for a job or are still looking for better health insurance. When you first begin a job, see if they offer COBRA on their health benefits package and if they do, make sure to sign up to ensure that you will always be insured -- even when you are out of a job.
Short term coverage usually begins the next day, but doesn’t cover routine doctor visits or pre-existing illnesses. You are covered for unexpected illnesses and accidents.
A health savings account, or HSA, may be another option for you and your family. It is similar to a regular savings account, but is tax-deferred. You can withdraw and deposit money at anytime for your health care needs. Another available option is a discount card. Some health insurance companies offer this; it helps you to save on doctor visits and prescription drugs.
